Idit Silman of New Hope, chairwoman of the Israeli government’s ruling coalition, announced her resignation from the coalition early this morning (Wednesday).

The Israeli government coalition now only has 60 MKs, tying it with the opposition. There is now no majority in the Knesset.

As reported previously on Matzav.com, on Sunday Silman said that Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz cannot “continue to be a minister” because of statement that he’d allow chometz to be brought into Israelo hospitals on Pesach due to “religious freedom. This is reportedly the issue she has resigned over.

Discussing the chometz matter, Silman said, “There are things that are related to the character of the State of Israel, ensuring that it has a traditional Jewish character.”

Referring to Horowitz, she said yesterday, “We will not be able to allow this person to continue to serve as a minister.”

“At such a tumultuous period, the Health Minister has decided to issue an announcement with regard to chometz on Pesach instead of showing care for others. This is not conduct that is generally seen from an Israeli government minister.

“During the Holocaust,” Silman said, “there were people who fasted all of the holiday of Pesach rather than consume chometz. But, regrettably, a minister in the State of Israel has given a ruling to permit chometz to be brought into our hospitals.

“Besides that this is an absolute affront to the other coalition members, it is also an insult to a large part of Israeli society – almost 70 percent of the country – who don’t consume chometz on Pesach.

Silman added, “Actually, either way, I should really thank the minister for bring attention to this matter, because sometimes people forget fundamental issues of the Jewish nations, issues for which people are risked their lives throughout the centuries.”

“There is a crossing of a red line here,” she said, “and we cannot take part in such a reality.”

The Supreme Court had ruled as early as January 2021 that chometz would be allowed into hospitals on Pesach, explaining that “Some patients want to eat the food they are used to eating all year round, and do not want to keep kosher laws for Pesach. Imposing a ban on eating a certain food for religious reasons on those who do not want it infringes on his freedom of religion, and his autonomy to live according to his values and desires.”

Opposition leader Bibi Netanyahu has congratulated Silman on her decision to step down and thus break the governing majority.

  1. Given the law values good sedar, this cries how bad the noxious elite liberal is in today’s jewish banter.

How many chometz substitutes are there? Holy has made many.

This is absurd and the patients can survive with passover requirements.

    How crummy is it?

  2. During the Holocaust,” Silman said, “there were people who fasted all of the holiday of Pesach rather than consume chometz. But, regrettably, a minister in the State of Israel has given a ruling to permit chometz to be brought into our hospitals.

    She’s right.
These pork eating reform mishgav zachor lowlife dogs who want to destroy the kedusha by the kosel, are now trying to make sure all those in hospitals are oiver a dioraisa of consuming chometz on Pesach. Wicked evil heretics. This lady is the only one that has the guts to stand up for Torah values.

  3. שתבא עליה ברכה
Pinchos stood up in the opposition to the transgression of זמרי and כזבי and publicly sanctified שם השם. Certainly NOT comparable, but this is certainly a public sanctification of ‘שם ה.
