rav-shmuel-rabinovitchThe Vaad Lemaan Tohar Hamachaneh (Committee for Purity of the Camp) has submitted a formal letter to Rav Shmuel Rabinovitch, rov of the Kosel and mekomos hakedoshim, stating that due to modesty concerns in the area of the Kosel, mechitzos should be installed along the entire length of the Kosel plaza.

In the letter, various rabbonim, including Rav Ezriel Awerebaach, Rav Mendel Fuchs and Rav Amram Ofman, ask for partitions to be placed from Shaar Ha’ashpah (Dung Gate) all the way to the Kosel to prevent mingling that has unfortunately become commonplace at the holy site.

It is not clear how serious the request is being taken by Rav Rabinovitch or those who legislate such matters.

As of this writing, Rav Rabinovitch has not responded publically to the request.

  1. I would have thought the same but

1 the Rabbonim involved know, understand, and have seen more, than I could possibly

2 last time I was at the kotel, I saw a lack of tznius and many people dressed inappropriately. Sadly, it’s become a tourist site.

  2. they should dig tunnels. it will also create work for unemployed .
dig a tunnel and then they could also make multi level shuls or kollels at the kotel… ps the best time to go to the kotel is at before 7 am or after 11 pm…

  3. Sadly, it is true that the Kosel area is impossible during the summer, the pritzus there is unbelievable. There are women who come there dressed almost like they were going to the beach – I am not exaggerating. And yes, Smiles is correct that if you are frum and you want to daven normally at the Kosel without seeing extreme immodesty all the way there, then the best time to go is before 7 in the morning or 11 at night.

  4. ME THINKS THEY PROTEST TOO MUCH.STOP BEING A FRUMOMETER MEASURING OTHER PEOPLE’S FRUMKEIT.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM DON’T LOOK. THE LAST THING YOU WANT IS TO TURN PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE KOTEL.

  5. As a girl, I also don’t want to see pritzus at mekomos haddoshim. Aside from the hashkafic problems there are halachic problems with davening with ervah in view

  6. Much as I dislike those who always find new Tznius issues to make issues about, based on some of my experiences by the Kosel, in this case they are correct. I would recomend a Mechitzo but only from Pesach through Sukkos
