kollel-business-network“Nothing inspires me like the sight of Klal Yisroel joining as one for a revolutionary project,” says Reb Duvi Honig, founder and director of the Learn and Network Kollel and the Parnassah Network organization, who marvels at the long list of communities that have already joined Learn and Network’s latest project, The Business Kollel Network, which debuted on Rosh Chodesh Elul.

The project, which introduces the first ever comprehensive curriculum on monetary halacha for bogrei hayeshivos, businessman and professionals, has attracted enthusiastic participation from shuls and kollelim in Brooklyn, Monsey, Lakewood, Passaic, Chicago, Minneapolis, Deal, Dallas, Cleveland and other North American communities, in addition to several locations in Eretz Yisroel.

Business Kollel Network aims to help participants follow the Torah path in the business world by bringing the works of the foremost authorities in practical business halacha into the everyday kollel yungerman‘s or businessman’s location and schedule. The program provides a curriculum that familiarizes participants with the key areas of monetary halacha – such as timely payment, contracts and commitment, competition, tzedakah obligations, damages, ribbis and more – in one seder a day, over a two-year period.

Noted Choshen Mishpat posek Rav Zev Cohen of Chicago; Rav Ari Marburger, dayan with Bais Din Maysharim and author of Business Halacha; Rav Yechiel Rothschild, the Bais Havaad L’Inyonei Mishpat, the Business Halacha Institute and others have actively partnered in the project.

As a result of this team effort, a wealth of maggidei shiur, audio shiurim and other resources are available to be tailored to the individual needs of local businessmen and communities. An interactive website and a special Smartphone app make a wealth of material available to the individual as well. Programs can be designed in a conventional kollel style with a chavrusah and steady shiurim during morning, afternoon or night seder. Leading talmidei chachamim have joined their local community branches. Those who desire a more sporadic program can take advantage of weekly shiurim at their local shul or even at their business.

A leading force behind The Business Kollel Network, Rav Eliezer Cohen, rov of Khal Tiferes Eliezer in Lakewood, which hosts the local Lakewood branch, explains the program’s special appeal that he has seen firsthand since its launch.

“When you learn hilchos Choshen Mishpat in a practical fashion, the learning doesn’t end when the seder or shiur is over,” he says. “Situations where these halachos apply keep on coming up, and you constantly think back to what you’ve learned.”
