flatbush-hate-crimeAfter a Brooklyn community witnessed four cars torched to a crisp with hate messages and symbols scrawled across the streets, community members and politicians are marching today in a “Walk for Tolerance.”

The messages and symbols included spray-painted Nazi swastikas, KKK signs and other hate symbols all over the crime scene in Brooklyn’s Midwood section, a predominantly Jewish neighborhood.

Now, New Yorkers of all races, religions and ethnicities plan to show their disgust with hatred as the police investigation into the attack continues.

“We’re not going to stand for it. We’re not going to let them stop us from walking, from living, from being Jewish,” one resident told 1010 WINS. “We’re not going to let them stop us from doing that. We’re upset.”

As the investigation continues, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said they’ve recovered key evidence in finding the perpetrators.

“We’ve recovered 27 empty bottles of corona so they will be tested for fingerprints as well as DNA,” he said.

State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, state Sen. Eric Adams and civil rights attorney Normal Siegal all plan to join local New Yorkers at the march, which starts at 12:30 p.m.

The march begins at Ocean Parkway and Avenue J and ends at Ocean Parkway and Kings Highway.

Despite the unity, residents remain angry and afraid of copycats.

“We’re afraid that it might give other people more ideas. I’m always worried about it,” one resident said. “My son sometimes comes home early in the morning. Who knows what they would do to him because he’s Jewish.”

The act has brought swift condemnation from city officials. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says there’s no place for hate in “the freest city in the freest country in the world.”

Residents of the neighborhood tell local newspapers that they were outraged. One witness says she saw a group of laughing kids fleeing the scene.

  1. I know someone who moved out of Midwood because he said it looks like a foreign country and no one speaks English there any more.

  2. this city needs to have cameras on all houses, so that if something like that ever happens again, something will hopefully be caught on the camera.
have the city give certain areas wholesale prices surveillance cameras.
