The House voted passed a resolution to condemn President Trump’s tweets in a vote today.

The measure, which formally rebuked the president’s comments as “racist”, was approved on a mostly partisan-line vote of 240 to 187.

The vote came days after Trump’s tweets about four newly elected Democratic lawmakers – Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan – sparked a widespread uproar. Ocasio-Cortez, Pressley and Tlaib were all born in the US, while Omar is a naturalized American citizen who arrived in the country at a young age as a Somali refugee.

“Every single member of this institution, Democratic and Republican, should join us in condemning the president’s racist tweets,” the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said on the House floor.

“To do anything less would be a shocking rejection of our values and a shameful abdication of our oath of office to protect the American people.”

  1. President Trump’s comment was boorish and obnoxious, but not racist.
On the other hand, genuine bigotry such as repeated anti-Semitic comments by Rep. Omar doesn’t even merit a condemnation of antisemitism by Democratic leadership.

Bottom line: Trump is often boorish, but the Democrats are far, far worse.

  2. 100% pure Politics without one iota of truth
They think the Americans are stupid. It will boomerang and help him win in 2020

  3. Lawmakers were in the middle of debating a resolution to condemn Trump’s tweet storm from this past weekend when Nancy Pelosi pointedly said Trump’s comments were racist on the House floor. Not only is that highly debatable, it turns out to be a violation of House rules.

This led to a 30 minute debate between Democratic staffers and the House Parliamentarian. Initially, Pelosi claimed she had cleared her language beforehand, but that turned out to not be true. Steny Hoyer would eventually rule Peloi’s comments out of order.

July 16 Kevin McCarthy: Speaker Pelosi just broke the rules of the House, and is no longer permitted to speak on the floor of the House for the rest of the day.

  4. I agree. Nancy Plastic has lost all her marbles. She should just join the coveted Joe Biden zone where only crazies are allowed in. She’s acting like a little 2 year old who needs a diaper change.
