Conflict in Meron: Dancing On Roof of Tzion, Police Officers Evacuate Site

A violent conflict broke out on Thursday in Meron as bochurim went to the kever of Rav Shimon Bar Yochai on the last day of bein hazemanim ahead of the new zeman.

Clashes broke out with police forces when boys allegedly started singing and dancing on the roof of the tzion.

Police say that a group of extremists tried to destroy infrastructure at the site.

The boys, and with them many mispallelim, were evacuated violently and brutally by the many police forces who quickly arrived at the scene.

“The extremist youths vehemently opposed the police’s instructions, threw objects at them and refused to leave the place,” said officials. “Many police forces were rushed to the site, arrested 4 suspects, and more arrests are expected.”

The police spokeswoman added that “the Israel Police takes the behavior of the lawbreakers very seriously, endangering the safety of the mispallelim, destroying infrastructure, and attacking the police officers who work to maintain public safety and security, blatantly and unrestrained. The police will act resolutely in order to enable the routine of tefillos and preparations, and will take tough action against those lawbreakers.”
