The White House and members of the Senate struck a deal on Tuesday to give Congress a say in any potential nuclear deal with Iran after negotiations are completed by June 30.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee moved forward a bill to give Congress 30 days to review the deal.
As the Washington Post explains: “Congress could then choose to put forth a resolution disapproving the deal, but Senate approval would require 60 votes. And if Obama vetoed the resolution, two-thirds of the Seante, or 67 votes, would be required to overturn it.”
The White House reiterated that Congress still does not have the power to approve or disapprove the whole nuclear deal, only to vote on lifting sanctions against Iran. Read more at the Washington Post.
