U.S. Rep. Chris Smith has easily won re-election in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District. The Republican was first elected in 1980 and has been re-elected ever since in the central New Jersey district.
In his three decades in Congress, the social conservative has become one of the main experts in Congress on the human rights of children and last year helped facilitate the return to New Jersey of a boy being held in Brazil in a custody dispute.
This time, he was opposed by Democrat Howard Kleinhendler, a Lakewood residentmaking his first run for office.
