chris-smithLakewood, NJ – The elegance of Lake Terrace Hall was barely noticeable amidst the festive décor in place in honor of Misameach’s annual midwinter evening event held there tonight. The gala event brought together families grappling with serious illness for an evening of fun and excitement, attracting over 600 attendees. True to their name, Misameach provided unmitigated joy and exuberance as patients and their families reveled in the warmth, the camaraderie and the sheer exhilaration generated by the evening.

From the lifelike roller coaster, created 20 Misameach volunteers, winding its way around the room, to the professional photographer taking family portraits for anyone interested, to the clowns startioned at the doors welcoming all attendees, this event, in true Misameach spirit, was unique in every way.

A number of local politicians and dignitaries attended,  including Mayor Aizik Akerman and Congressman Chris Smith, who presented the organization with a plaque in recognition of the amazing work they do.

Children were at a loss as to where to turn first, between the variety of indoor rides, moon bounces and obstacle courses, carnival booths with exciting prizes, crafts, entertainment and hot fleishig food.

The impressive lineup of entertainment kept kids, their parents and everyone in between mesmerized for hours. New Jersey Transit Police enthralled the boys in particular with an informative and entertaining dog show; Benny Freidman and Dovid Gabay gave a concert that had the audience on their feet, clapping, dancing and singing. The Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team performed an amazing array of stunts and acrobats of the “don’t try this at home!” variety. There were storytellers and clowns; there were unicyclists and  costumed creatures large and small, all adding to the excitement literally bouncing off the walls. The evening drew to a close after 8:00 PM, as children with faces sticky from cotton candy and slush, hands loaded with prizes and nosh, and hearts bursting with joyful memories of an evening they will never forget, headed home with their tired but exhilarated parents. Just as they do every day of the year, Misameach brought joy to the lives of patients and their families.
