boston policeThe man killed by a police officer and FBI agent in Boston on Tuesday planned to behead police officers, The Boston Globe reports, citing two unnamed law-enforcement sources. Usaama Rahim was shot as he approached them with a military-style knife, the officials said, adding he was under 24-hour surveillance by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and had made threats against police.

Later Tuesday, police also arrested David Wright on federal charges connected to the shooting, said a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She declined to provide details of the charges, but an official with knowledge of the case said the charges will relate to an alleged plot to kill a law-enforcement member.

A Facebook page for a man named Usaama Rahim shows he “liked” a page for the Islamic State of Iraq, Sharia, and prominent Salafist clerics. His last public update, posted March 27, shows an image of a mountain range. The superimposed quote reads: “Let not the opinions of man interfere with the directions given to you by God.” Read more at The Boston Globe.
