A recall involving organic eggs sold at Costco has been deemed a high-risk situation for possible Salmonella contamination, as reported by the FDA.
The FDA has categorized this as a Class I recall, which is defined as a scenario where there is a significant chance that exposure to a defective product could result in severe health consequences or even death.
In a recent announcement, Handsome Brook Farms, an organic egg supplier based in New York, initiated the recall of their Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs. These eggs were distributed at 25 Costco locations across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee starting on November 22.
The affected eggs are identified by UPC 9661910680, Julian code 327, plant number P1363, and a use-by date of January 5, 2025.
The recall was triggered when it was discovered that eggs intended for non-retail purposes were accidentally packaged and sold as retail items. In response, the company is enhancing its supply chain monitoring and retraining its staff to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Salmonella infection can lead to severe health complications, especially in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms of the infection include fever, stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, and in rare instances, it may cause more severe health problems.
As of now, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall, according to Handsome Brook Farms.
Consumers who have purchased the affected eggs are urged to stop using them immediately and either throw them away or return them to Costco for a full refund, as stated in the recall notice.

Oh Wow!!
