Governor Cuomo spoke to the press this morning and gave an update on the status of the coronavirus spreading across New York.

The governor said there have been 5000 new cases overnight, with New York’s total reaching over 20,000.

He reassured reporters that of those, only 13% needed hospitalization. Putting it into perspective, Cuomo also noted that of the nearly 350,000 people confirmed to be infected on 15,000 have died. Additionally there are many of those who didn’t show symptoms or didnt get tested which would make the mortality rate even lower.

Cuomo said the State is already discussing restarting the economy and whether people who have recovered can return to work.

  1. During the 2018-2019 flu season, 35.5 million got the flu of which 34,200 died – most of which probably from flu shots, which is probably why the corona virus have much fewer deaths than the flu in previous years.

  2. I think there might be a typo over here: “He reassured reporters that of those, only 13% needed hospitalization. Putting it into perspective, Cuomo also noted that of the nearly 350,000 people confirmed to be infected on 15,000 have died.“
    Do you mean have recovered?

  3. Coronavirus deaths includes: heart attacks, old age, injuries, influenza, pneumonia, and other sickness.
