An alarming COVID-19 outbreak has emerged as a significant concern at Kadima Day School, a Jewish school situated in the Los Angeles Valley. The situation escalated when both students and a member of the school’s professional staff were diagnosed with the virus earlier this week, particularly affecting one of the classes. In response, the school administration swiftly implemented mandatory measures, such as mask mandates and testing requirements, which have ignited a wave of apprehension among parents.

The initial notification, issued on Monday, apprised parents of the staff member’s positive diagnosis and subsequent isolation. Following the guidelines provided by health authorities, a recommendation was disseminated, urging students to undergo COVID-19 testing and mandating the wearing of masks within enclosed spaces for the ensuing 10 days.

A communiqué from the school administration reached parents, stating, “Please feel free to send your child to school in the coming days in any well-fitting mask of your choice. Children who do not have masks will not be admitted to class.” While expressing regret over the need for these measures, the administration emphasized their obligation after the health authorities designated the school as the site of an outbreak.

In a recent update, health authorities officially marked the affected classroom as the focal point of the outbreak, given the multiple infections detected among its students. Consequently, a more stringent directive was issued, mandating that all students in the affected class wear masks at all times for the next 10 days and present a negative COVID-19 test result to access the school premises.

The school administration underscored the non-negotiable nature of these new measures, clarifying, “Unfortunately, this is not a request, or even a recommendation. It is a requirement. As the site of an outbreak, the school risks having the entire campus shut down if we are found to be out of compliance with the order. We are not able to offer exemptions from these rules, or exceptions to them,” the message reiterated.

Parents who hold reservations about the mandates voiced their concerns to the local news outlet Hebrewnews, particularly addressing the apparent inconsistency in approach to the pandemic over recent months. With relaxed isolation protocols in both Israel and the US, coupled with a decrease in the severity of cases, questions arise about the necessity of such rigorous measures for asymptomatic children.

Despite these reservations, the school administration maintains its resolute stance, emphasizing the indispensability of the measures in light of health authority designations and the potential for broader campus implications.

״Exceptions to the mandates will not be entertained,״ reiterated the school.

The situation has sparked a debate among parents, leading some to consider keeping their children at home in protest. This broader discourse highlights the ongoing friction between public health recommendations and individual freedoms, along with the evolving understanding of COVID-19’s impact on children.

Established in 1970, Kadima Day School holds a distinctive position as one of the earliest Jewish day schools in the West Valley. With a budget-friendly tuition structure supported by notable donors, including the late Sheldon Adelson, the school attracts both Israeli families and those seeking a curriculum grounded in Jewish values. The school, as mentioned on its official website, does not align with any specific Jewish denomination. Students engage in daily Hebrew-language and Judaic Studies classes integrated into the curriculum model. Operating as a kosher campus, all male elementary students are required to wear yarmulkes.

  1. By enforcing masks, the school is committing child abuse. The parents should immediately take their kids out and homeschool or send them to a school thst is not brainwashed.

    • Parents should take children of any school that still believes in the fake virus. They cannot be trusted. They’d bring on fear to the students and convince them to line up to take the death shots like they did 2 years ago.

    • By enforcing masks, the school is saving lives. Few abuses are as bad as enabling children to kill their teachers, parents, and grandparents.

      • The exact opposite. A minute amount of people died from covid. Vast majority were outright murdered in the hospitals. Some died ” with ” covid. Wake up!

  2. Children should not be forced to attend school. School is detrimental to kids education. Everything you need to know you can learn outside of school.. I am opposed to school education for children let them be natural, the way the force intended it to be

  3. Stupid School. Leave the kids alone without masks and keep the school open. Giving into this shtus only shows we are weak and if you give in once you will give in twice. Soon they will lock your shuls for YOM TOV. Parents in this school should protest and send their children without masks. Here we go again. Shepsalach. Wake up!

  4. Shoyn, the leftist narishkeit is at it again. It’s the Electionyearicron Variant.

With all that is known already, there’s virtually no reason for this whatsoever! There are more people who are injured from falls everyday than who have China virus!

  5. Horrible. They’re ignoring the science, trying to cram politics and control veiled in fake science down everyone’s throats even now. Still messing with children mor than any other country. Horrible and ridiculous. Where’s your Gemara honed logic? Send them to school. Let them protest while not being admitted. Learn on their own.
