New York…The kosher food industry continues to suffer from the repercussions of the ongoing Covid-19 saga.

One issue that is creating the greatest headache for the industry is the manpower shortage. Kashrus agencies are encouraging mashgichim (kosher supervisors) to get vaccinated especially since a growing number of food plants are requiring all workers to be vaccinated.

Rabbi Moshe Elefant, the COO of the Orthodox Union, said his agency is urging vaccination but that there are still many employees who oppose the vaccine. The manpower shortage is having a huge impact on kosher restaurants and caterers who face staff shortages in the kitchen and the waiter staff.

The industry is also being impacted by the issues with the supply chain, especially as many food products and ingredient items are stalled outside of ports such as in California.

  1. I don’t understand. So just let an unvaccinated mashgiach do his job as long as he tests negative for Covid. Why does it have to be all or nothing?

  2. NO ONE- NO ONE has the right to tell anyone what to put in ones body. Shame on the Kashrus agencies. Especially a Yid. We have been through so much where people have dictated to us what we should do. It was NEVER for our benefit. STOP LISTENING TO DEMOCRATS AND LIBERALS. They are garbage.

    • Vote Republican and get vaccinated. That’s what Trump says. If we were all vaccinated, and GOP was in control, things would be a lot better off.

  3. To anon of course,
You know exactly what I mean. Kashrus agencies make sure food is kosher. They don’t force you to eat something that you don’t want to. (Obviously something kosher) can a Kashrus agency force you to only eat dairy on Mondays, Wednesday and Shabbos? And on the others days force you to eat meat only. NO. That is not there job. Also Shabbos you eat meat. Can you imagine the government saying no one is allowed to eat meat on Shabbos? Would you stop??? NO!!! Once again ,NO ONE can force you to put something into your body. Just like no one can force you to eat a specific food. Basically anon of course. Get educated
