Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas blasted CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins during a heated exchange, accusing her of pushing “misinformation” by claiming there was no known motive in the Charlie Kirk investigation.

“You just said law enforcement has not laid out a motive: That is objectively false,” Cruz snapped at Collins. “That is objectively false. What you are saying is objectively false, and CNN should not be engaged in misinformation.”

Cruz referenced a recent incident where an MSNBC analyst lost his job after speculating that Kirk might have been shot by an armed supporter firing a gun in celebration.

“Of course we know,” Cruz said. “Come on. We don’t have a motive yet? Really? Really, that’s CNN’s position? He just happened to fire the gun in celebration? You can’t tell the motive here?”

The Texas senator, once described by Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz as one of his “most brilliant students” in fifty years of teaching, reminded Collins that investigators had already presented evidence of motive.

“Actually, they have” laid out the motive, Cruz said. “They said he was a left-wing activist who hated Charlie Kirk. Pardon?” Cruz pressed after Collins stayed quiet.

Collins tried to counter respectfully but repeated her stance, leading Cruz to interrupt again. “They have. That statement is false,” he said.

“You don’t want facts: Go ahead, give your speech,” Cruz told her.

As the back-and-forth continued, Cruz criticized attempts to blame conservative voices for violence when the evidence, he said, showed the opposite.

“Anyone who engages in acts of violence should go to jail, but I will say there has been an enormous amount – and CNN has been guilty of this, or both-sides-ism – of saying, ‘Gosh, both sides are violent.’ And understand, yes, there is violence on both sides, but it is the left that overwhelmingly celebrates this.”

Cruz highlighted the behavior on Bluesky, a left-leaning alternative to X.

“It is a cesspool of leftists celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk,” Cruz said.

“You look at recent polling that says over 50% of Democrats saying that violence against Elon Musk is justified, violence against Donald Trump is justified.”

For years, Cruz argued, Democrats have fueled this environment by portraying Trump as a “threat to democracy” and branding his supporters as “fascists.”

“This is a left-wing problem,” Cruz declared.

Collins attempted to balance the discussion by pointing to the assassination of a Democratic lawmaker, but Cruz pushed back, noting that the perpetrator in that case had been linked to an appointee of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Walz has himself been criticized for joking earlier this month that he wished to wake up to headlines about Trump’s death.

“Yes, there are crazed lunatics on the right and left, but if you look at murders committed for political agendas, they are overwhelmingly on the left,” Cruz told Collins, stressing what he called a “disproportionate problem” and pointing to the celebratory reactions online.

“What I am not doing is what leftists are doing: Leftists are celebrating that murder,” Cruz continued. “I think the murder in Minnesota was horrible. You would have a point, if I said let’s set up a bail fund for that murder. Then you would have a point, but it’s only one side that’s doing that.”
