New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered state police to ramp up security patrols for Jewish communities, according to a statement Monday.

“In the wake of the unacceptable recent increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes nationwide, I am proactively deploying State Troopers to provide security at Jewish religious, educational, and community facilities,” he said.

“We will do all we can to help ensure Jewish New Yorkers — and New Yorkers of all faiths — are safe,” Cuomo said on Twitter.

The move comes after a serious increase in anti-Semitic incidents and attacks on Jews by Palestinian sympathizers since Israel’s recent escalation with terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip.

  1. Futile and dishonest. The presence of police does not deter crime. It forces it to relocate. The anti-Semitic attacks might not happen in front of shuls. They can happen lots of other places. And the thugs are hardly afraid of getting caught. They won’t even spend a night in lockup.

I propose the loosening of restrictions of what our own citizens can do. Shomrim, Shmira, and the like should not be targets of lawsuits and such for capturing attackers. They should be supported by the police and state and local governments.

Next – anyone observed committing a violent crime, including mugging, holdups, breaking and entering can be apprehended with use of lethal force during the commission of the crime. Sounds a bit like the halacha of rodef. These animals won’t voluntarily stop. They must be stopped by force.

  2. If you want to do something that actually works you have to go on the offensive. Judges must stop releasing the criminals with no consequences whatsoever to the criminals. Anything else is just a nice gesture at best…

  3. how noble of him! he’s panicked at all the allegations. Will New Yorkers be fooled by his 11th hour gesture to do something. what a phony!
