Mayoral contender Curtis Sliwa won the Republican primary in the race to replace Bill de Blasio.

Sliwa beat businessman Fernando Mateo. He’ll face off against the winner of the Democratic primary and any additional third-party candidates in the general election on Nov. 2.

For years, Sliwa has been known as head of the Guardian Angels, an anti-crime group. He’s said he’ll bring back stop and frisk and a plainclothes anti-crime unit, which was disbanded in June of 2020. Sliwa’s also called for greater police presence on subways and buses.

Sliwa credited his supporters in a victory speech, especially Staten Island Republicans who endorsed him early on. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani stood at Sliwa’s side for the speech, whom Sliwa also thanked. Giuliani at times received more raucous applause than Sliwa.

  1. That means we are guaranteed anti-semitic liberal gubmit no matter who wins, d or r. Evacuate NY. There are plenty of nice conservative areas with zero state income tax. Leave the askanim back.

  2. As one of the few remaining frum registered Republicans in this City, I voted for Fernando Mateo. Curtis has always been a backstabbing anti Semite, using every opportunity to bash and besmirch Frum Yidden. Thank God he has a zero chance of becoming Mayor of this City. Adams will be much more friendly and sensitive to the needs of the Frum community. Let’s see what happens on the democrat side.
