DailyMail Poll: 71 Percent Say Biden Too Old to Be President

According to the most recent DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners poll, a significant majority of Americans (71%) and almost half of Democrats (49%) believe that President Joe Biden is too old to serve as commander in chief. The findings of the poll seem detrimental to Biden’s chances of re-election, as 52% of all voters claim to be worse off since he assumed office, despite the world facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, subsequent lockdowns, and economic uncertainty.

Alarmingly, the poll reveals that a majority of Americans are even worse off now under Biden’s presidency. The survey found that a plurality of voters (43%) consider themselves to be significantly worse off than they were in the midst of the pandemic.

Pollster James Johnson, co-founder of J.L. Partners, stated, “There are few things that unite American voters, but there is one: the belief that Biden is too old to be president. Decisive margins across all age groups, ethnic groups, and political parties agree with the sentiment. And worryingly for the current president, those most likely to say they are worse off under Biden’s policies include groups with disproportionate impact come an election: Independent voters and 45-64 year-olds. Though he managed to avoid his age becoming a pivotal issue in 2020, it looks set to be the defining hesitation in voters’ minds next year.”

Biden already holds records for being the oldest elected president, the oldest to assume office, and the oldest serving president in the White House. If re-elected and serving a second term, Biden would be 86 years old at the end of his tenure.

Acknowledging his advanced age and Americans’ weariness, Biden humorously remarked at a campaign event in Connecticut, “A lot of you are tired… Try being 110 and doing it again.” However, it was during that same speech that Biden puzzled many by concluding with the phrase, “God save the Queen.”

While former President Donald Trump is also advanced in age, Americans may potentially face a choice between an 81-year-old Biden and a 78-year-old Trump in the upcoming general presidential election. Even if Trump were to serve a full term until 2028, he would not surpass Biden’s age records.

Former South Carolina GOP Governor Nikki Haley, currently ranking third, fourth, or fifth in the primary race alongside Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Tim Scott, R-S.C., asserted that voting for Biden is essentially a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris to eventually become the first female U.S. president. “He announced that he’s running again in 2024, and I think that we can all be very clear and say with a matter of fact that if you vote for Joe Biden, you really are counting on a President Harris because the idea that he would make it until 86 years old is not something that I think is likely,” Harris stated during her campaign.

The DailyMail/J.L. Partners poll was conducted from June 12 to 15, surveying 1,000 likely U.S. general election voters. The results carry a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
