Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon on Monday called for action to be taken against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) after the general public voted her 2019’s “Antisemite of the Year.”

“Here is a clear opportunity to prove that all the talk about standing up to #antisemitism is not just an empty promise, but will be followed by action,” Danon posted on Twitter.

StopAntisemitism.org held a competition by inviting the public to expose the worst anti-Semites of the year.

Following weeks of voting and a number of nominations, the finalists were neo-Nazi and white supremacist Richard Spencer, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and Omar. The Minnesota congresswoman came out as the “winner” after another round of public voting.

The NGO released a video that lists “a few reasons why she’s deserving of the title,” which include her support for the anti-Semitic BDS movement; accusations that Jews buy influence with their money; claiming Israel is “hypnotizing the world” and worthy of comparison to Nazi Germany; and the backing she receives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Danon previously advocated for Omar’s removal from public office over her anti-Semitism.

The ambassador said in May, “If you have people that use that kind of language, eventually I think the public need to remove them from office. If you allow them to continue the message, you send to the people that’s OK. That’s what happened in the past in other countries, and we should not tolerate it.”
