arab-villageMaya, the Jewish daughter of a Hamas sheikh who escaped an Arab village and now works with Yad L’Achim to help other Jews return to their people, has arrived from Eretz Yisroel to tell her dramatic story in a series of personal appearances. As a teenager, Maya convinced an Arab uncle to help her make her getaway and then spent a year living in a cave in Yerushalayim, until a social worker found her and brought her to a supervised youth house. At the facility, she met someone who helped her find her way to Torah observance.

Today, a young mother of three whose husband learns in kollel, Maya is working for Yad L’Achim, warning young people of the dangers of getting involved with Arabs, and helping extricate them from the kind of dangerous situation she was in.

After Maya’s talk, a dramatic film will be aired documenting the rescue of Maya and her eight children from an Arab home in Yerushalayim’s Muslim Quarter.

The event, for women only, will be held in Lakewood, at Lake Terrace Hall, tonight, Admission is $15, with all proceeds going to tzedaka. Due to the subject, single girls and children will not be admitted.

  1. Why is everyone ignoring the fact that the Gedolim in Eretz Yisroel have witheld their support from Yad L’Achim for the past fifteen years?!

Rav Shach Zt’l ordered all of the Bnai Torah associated with them to leave and founded Lev L’Achim to undertake the mission of Kiruv and harbotzas torah that Yad L’Achim could no longer be trusted to do.

They have a lot of chutzpah to act as if they have the backing of any current Gedolei Yisroel such as Rav Elyashiv, Rav Shteinman or Rav Chaim Kanievsky. In an age where every tzedaka organization seems to have the blessings of these great leaders it is quite revealing of the true nature of Yad L’Achim when one considers that they do not have the backing of these Gedolim.

  2. I would tell !!! To get a life and to examine what the organization does and not which rabbi they can snooker in for a picture to use in their advertising. Obviously Yad L’achim must be doing something or they’d never have met up with this woman. Obviously this woman knows more the matzav (pun intended)than anyone commenting on Matzav.com.
So I say come one come all and help the shluchim of Hashem do their mission.

  3. Maya spoke so heartrendingly beautiful, she had us reduced to tears… to think of how much she suffered….it was such a relief to hear that she went on to build a bayis ne’eman b’yisroel. What a true heroine!! May she know of only good from hereon and see lots of yiddish nachas from her three gorgeous children and their future doros IYH.

  4. I’m confused. First, the article says that she’s the young mother of three. Then it says, “the rescue of Maya and her eight children.”

Does she have 3 children or 8 children?

  5. The video is about a different family that was rescued from the Arab Quarter. Who ever wrote this article made a mistake.

  6. Maya is a mother of 3 children. The documentary film they have at the end is of a rescue of a different jewish lady with 8 children.

  7. Yad L’achim is an amazing organization with the backing of Gedolei Yisroel. Maran Posek Hador Rav Wosner constantly issues Haskamas and letters to support them. Here are a few more 1) The Whole Eida Hachareidis 2) Rav Ovadia Yosef 3) Gaved Yerushalayim to name a few of today. Past a) Rav Moshe Feinstein b) Rav Yechiel Michel Feinstein wrote an Haskomah only a few years ago. (Right before he passed away) It’s mamash a shame to stoop to such degrading words , and not to support such a choshuve moised. It’s all emes, support them.

  8. I am a relative of someone close to Maya. Everybit is true down to the last detail! Very scary. She currently helps tons of Jewish Girls to get out of their terrible situation. Amazing! She has been giving her speech in Eretz Hakodesh for years in Hebrew. I recently saw a Kol Koreh just issued by the Badatz Eida Hachareidis to support them. Amongst the signees was Rav Meir Bransdorfer Zt”l

  9. All,
Please realize that the laws of forbidden speech/lashon hara includes deragatory comments in writing. Especially on forums where it is lashon hara/motzai shem ra in public we must take care even more.

Rav Shach fonded Lev L’achim. I do not know what the above comment is based on that the Gedolei E”Y do not support Lev L’achim, but we definetly know that the Gedolim in US support it and this would not be so if Gedlei Hador in E”Y did otherwise. R’ Yitzchok Feigelstock, one of the closest talmidim to R’ Aron and Rosh Yeshiva of Long Beach staunchly supports Lev L’achim.

In all probability the earlier statements are not true (motzai shem ra) and even if are, are forbidden to be discussed and certainly not to be believed by others reading them.

In this precarious time we must do everything we can to be worthy of the “zman geulah”.

    Let’s perfect ourselves even more.

  10. The Prince of Swaziland while studying Aramaic in Oxford decided to study it from the Talmud. From reading it he became convinced of its truth and become a ger. His father the king said that he always acted jewish , he is the only son of many who went to college. After learning some years in Kollel he became a speaker for Arachim. He is a genuis who knows 14 languages. After living in Tsefas a few years he moved with his young family to Har Nof . A really amazing member of Klal Yisroel.
