The Ny Daily News reports that NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is calling to outright prohibit plastic bags in the city.
“We need to ban plastic bags — the time for debate on this is over. They’re bad for the environment, they’re bad for the economy, they’re bad for New York,” the mayor wrote Sunday in a tweet. The state is behind the curve here, it’s time to put our planet first.”
The City Council previously passed and de Blasio signed a law to put a 5-cent fee on plastic and paper disposable bags, in an effort to motivate shoppers to bring their own bags, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state Legislature – thankfully – blocked the city from imposing the fee.

Outof touch. If the supermarket won’t give me a bag,I will literally need to buy bags. There is not one family in this city, other that his champagne sipping friends, that does not have a place in the home where they keep these bags for future use.
