Two El Al flights from Tel Aviv were delayed last night and this morning, leading to tremendous inconveniences for many travelers.

Reports that the pilots simply didn’t show up to work were denied by El Al, despite such claims by El Al employees at the airport.

The first flight was from Tel Aviv to Barcelona. It was scheduled for takeoff at 9 a.m. but was delayed.

The other one, an overnight flight to Newark, New Jersey, was delayed for about eight hours this morning.

Matzav.com spoke to several people with relatives on the flight, including talmidim of the yeshivos of Brisk (Rav Avrohom Yehoshua Soloveitchik) and Mir Yerushalayim.

The flight arrived in Newark not long ago, and while some people had hoped to get home in time for Shabbos, many of them will be put up at local hotels, we are told.

Askanim, including Misaskim’s indefatigable director Yanky Meyer, were working to ensure that the travelers would get through customs quickly.

  1. ELAL ought pay the price for this. Their flights are routinely delayed of late: in fact, its become the standard. If they’re not hit in the pocketbook – they’re Israelis – they don’t learn. In their view they have the ‘G-d given’ right to do as they please.

    • Congratulations!
Nice example of Lashon Hora / Motzi Shem Ra.
You’ve just lost your Olam HaBa.
I’ll bet when it comes to Pesach though, you consider yourself quite the tzaddik.
      Too bad.

  2. Very aggravating. However, most people, including myself, were taught not to take overnight flights to Eretz Yisrael on Thursdays, nor to fly Erev Shabbos on an international flight.

I hope everything worked out well.

  3. The flight was meant to get in many hours earlier- thurs middle of the night or very early morning- and was delayed repeatedly. They didnt plan to be on it on Friday.
