The New York Senate’s Democratic conference says it’s headed to court to try to block the coalition that claims it took the majority power of the chamber Monday in a parliamentary power grab. Democratic spokesman Austin Shafran says the conference will seek a court order to block the coalition of Republicans and two dissident Democrats from opening the Senate session today.
The request to the state Supreme Court in Albany could be acted upon quickly, temporarily sustaining the stalemate.
A final decision could determine which group of senators controls the jobs and resources of the Senate and which group controls legislation.
The coalition says it’s prepared to defend the legality of its surprise move to replace the Democratic conference on Monday.
