Democrats Threaten To Make Republicans Regret Confirming Barrett

Democratic senators are warning that Republicans will regret confirming Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court as the Democrats face pressure from the left to nix the filibuster and expand the court if they win back the majority.

Democrats are facing calls from their base to enact rules changes and broad systemic reforms after President Trump, who lost the popular vote in 2016, was able to put three justices on the bench, in part because Republicans refused to give Merrick Garland, former President Obama’s final nominee, a hearing or a vote in 2016.

Several Democratic senators warned as part of the chamber’s debate over Barrett that Republicans have lost the right to kvetch if Democrats win back the majority and change the rules. Republicans nixed the filibuster in 2017 for Supreme Court nominees and reduced the debate time in 2019 for lower court and executive picks.

“I know that there’s a lot of speculation … about what Democrats will do if Democrats are given control of the Senate. Will Democrats go to new, extraordinary lengths to maximize their power given the extraordinary lengths Republicans have gone to maximize their power? This is not a conversation that is ripe enough yet, but what do Republicans expect?” asked Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).

  1. Hey Dumb Dems, when you’re in the majority it’s your turn, when they it’s their turn! Should my Pre1a child teach you about sharing and turn-taking? You hd your turn and you made a חורבן of our great country! Now sit down with your hands folded and shut up.

  2. Which Democrats are still around to threaten anything? Most of them were coronavirused. Precisely the reason why President Trump waited with the newly appointed Supreme Court Judge almost 2 years after Ginsburg was coronavirused.

    • Coronavirus is around since 2017, see govt blogs. In Jan 2019 they were discussing and voting on stimulus packages. In Jan. 2020 coronavirus officially appeared in the world.

  3. It was the Democrats in 2013 who originally removed the judicial filibuster rule, and now they complain that their own earlier rule change has now helped the Republicans.

  4. It is in the constitution.George Bush and Donald Trump did not win the popular vote. They won the presidency because of the electoral college. People find it frustrating that the minority is ruling the majority. I doubt the will do it because they don’t play like the REPUBLICANS AND i think that is what McConnel is counting on. Excluding Kagan, five of the last appointed justices were put on the bench by a President that lost the majority vote. The appointment of judges should be reformed to remove the partisanship. The country is at war with itself. Barrett is the first justice in a long time that did not get one vote from the opposing party, and two of the Senators that voted for her were appointed not elected (Loeffler and Mcsally). She has also damaged her credibility by appearing at the white house like all of Trump’s judges and is now in one of his ads.

    • If you’re talking about popular votes, neither did Hillary win the popular votes anywhere in 2016. She never won anything. In fact, she ended up with only 12% of the population who voted for her – too little for the CIA to change the results like they’ve been doing for decades.
