Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf has warned Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler that if he continues to refuse federal assistance for his city, “the federal government will have no choice but to protect our American citizens.”

“We are standing by to support Portland,” Wolf wrote in a letter dated Aug. 31, 2020 to Wheeler, Fox News reported Monday. “At the same time, President Trump has made it abundantly clear that there will come a point when state and local officials fail to protect its citizens from violence, the federal government will have no choice but to protect our American citizens.”

For over three months, there have been nightly violent protests in Portland’s streets that have included three recent killings after protesters and pro-Trump groups clashed. Law enforcement officials have also made 255 arrests and declared 23 unlawful assemblies and riots.

  1. The corrupt Mr. Wheeler wants the violence to continue for one reason only. He wants the rioters to kill and mame white Republicans and destroy their businesses. He must be removed from office. He is not keeping up his oath to protect those that pay his salary.

  2. It is illegal for the federal government to enforce local laws. All that federal law enforcement officers can do is to enforce federal law and to protect federal property.

Wheeler is up for re-election this fall. There was a “jungle primary” in May and Wheeler came within 0.72% of winning an outright majority. The opponent who survived to face him a far left candidate who wants to de-fund the Portland police. There was a Republican in the jungle primary who only got 5% of the vote, in fifth place. Wheeler is a centrist Democrat who is hated by the nutty far left; the rioting is probably to make him (and Biden) look bad. Wheeler doesn’t want Trump’s goons again because they made things worse — not to mention teargassing him personally!
