Mark T. Esper, who served as secretary of defense from 2019 until his firing by President Trump after the 2020 election, has published a book named A Sacred Oath: Memoirs of a Secretary of Defense During Extraordinary Times.

It reveals details of his tumultuous tenure while serving in the Trump administration and seems to claim that former prime minister Bibi Netanyahu urged Trump to attack Iran. Unfortunately, many critical passages are censored.

The pertinent passage begins by saying that Trump seemed determined not to enter a war with Iran and continues: “The president often had others in the room, and foreign leaders like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, telling him [CENSORED].”

Esper continues: “Netanyahu would say this to me when I met with him, so I was confident he was telling Trump the same thing,” adding, “In my view, that seemed like a big bet to take, especially when there wasn’t a pressing need to take it anytime soon.”
