MK Michael Malkieli of Shas wrote to Education Minister Naftali Bennett asking why Jewish recognized but unofficial private schools were being discriminated against in favor of Christian and Muslim schools.

Recently, when Jewish and Muslim private schools petitioned in court after the Ministry of Social Equality transferred $14 million to Christian private schools, a special committee decided to grant $28 million to Muslim schools but nothing to Jewish schools. The committee explained that as minorities,Christians and Muslims needed special funds to preserve their identities.

“This discriminatory policy is illegal and raises serious questions about the Ministry of Education’s commitment to equality in education for all Israeli children,” Malkieli wrote Bennett.
