trumpNew York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is having enough trouble hitting balls thrown by opposing pitchers.

Now he’s taking a high, hard one from a New York billionaire.

Donald Trump thinks the Yankees should dump the slumping slugger.

“I would terminate his contract, personally,” Trump said Tuesday on ESPN New York 98.7 FM, according to ESPN.com. “I think George (Steinbrenner, the late Yankees owner) would’ve done that. I would terminate his contract on the basis that when he signed, he didn’t say that he took drugs.

“Since he signed his contract, they found out that he took drugs. … He actually admitted that he took drugs. Now he’s not taking drugs anymore, and without the drugs, he’s a less-than-average player.”

Rodriguez confessed in 2009 that he had used performance-enhancing drugs, but he said he had only done so while playing for the Texas Rangers from 2001-03.

Rodriguez, in a 3-for-23 (.130) slump this postseason, was left out of the Yankees’ starting lineup for Tuesday’s Game 3 of the American League Championship Series at Detroit. The Tigers won the first two games of the series at Yankee Stadium.

Against right-handers, Rodriguez was 0-for-18 with 12 strikeouts in the playoffs.

Rodriguez, 37, has five years and a guaranteed $114 million left on his contract. He’ll make $28 million next year, $25 million in 2014, $21 million in 2015, $20 million in 2016 and $20 million in 2017. He earned $29 million this year, when he batted .272 with 18 homers and 57 RBI in 122 regular-season games.

“I don’t think he’s an asset, I think he’s a liability to the Yankees,” Trump said. “They’re paying him $30 million a year, and he strikes out every time he comes up in a playoff game.”
