hikind1Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) today applauded the federal government for finally taking concrete measures to secure the nation’s airports and its citizenry from terrorists.

Yesterday, the Obama administration announced that citizens of 14 countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq, Somalia and Yemen, will be subject to increased scrutiny at airports worldwide before being permitted to board planes bound for the United States.

“I am thrilled that the Obama administration has finally cast aside political correctness in favor of the nation’s safety,” Hikind said. “In light of this federal directive, I am more encouraged than ever before that terrorist profiling will become a reality in New York State.”

Last week, Hikind revealed that he plans to reintroduce his 2005 terrorist profiling legislation which would amend the New York State Executive Law to permit police and peace officers to consider the race or ethnicity of a person as one of multiple factors in identifying a terrorist suspect.

“It is noteworthy that the federal government did not choose to single out Norwegians or Swedish citizens in their mandate,” remarked Hikind. “As I have long argued, we cannot deny that these attacks are constantly carried out by young Muslim men of Arab or South Asian origin. This federal counter-terrorism measure only serves to prove this point.”

  1. Hikind is absolutely right. We need
more public officials like him who understand
    the need to maximize security.

Moreover, this is about national security.
It is essential to profile air travelers
    to deter and stop terrorism.
