A frum doctor in Queens, New York, Dr. Ellie Bennett, wrote a long, detailed, letter to the rosh av bais din of the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidis, Rav Moshe Shternbuch, and that letter convinced Rav Shternbuch to close his yeshiva in light of the coronavirus.
The letter explains the danger of the spread of the virus. The number of hospital beds, the doctor writes, is not enough for all expected patients.
The only way to stop the spread of the virus is to maintain distance between people, wrote Dr. Bennett.

Kol HaKavod, Ellie.
Keep up your good work on behalf of the Klal.
Your letter to RMS is a masterpiece of professionalism and humility.
what does kol hakavod mean? can’t you say it in plain english?
why is your name in Hebrew cant you translate it to english!
But he still doesn’t detail the difference between the common flu and coronavirus which seems to be 100% the same (and is indeed so according to many professional doctors). However, according to the death records these weeks it seems that every person that died had “coronavirus” which includes: heart attacks, old age, injuries, influenza, pneumonia, and other sickness.
Shhh! Don’t wake up the sheeple. Everyone should follow instructions and stay home and keep away from crowds for your own protection and security. There’s good reason why the military and tanks have to be deployed. So just stay home and stay glued to your window. Things might turn interesting in your area.
what do you mean? Are they draining the swamp?
Maybe be intuned with the news. People with these underlining issues are at a greater risk of not only getting the virus, which many have gotten mildly but then getting complications from it.
If i was wise i wouldnt answer foolishness
but alas I am not.
Difference 1) the coronavirus spreads much quicker because there has been no immunity built up yet.
difference 2) the complications from corona virus include restricted breathing and pnemonia – like symptoms.
those things are very problematic. obviously.
Now i will assume that you just feel the way you do in good faith, and if so, you are definitely entitled to your opinion. (though i hope you will consider my points and do more research on that basis).
but there are some always trumpers who are convinced that this is all a ploy. you even reference that by saying its a hoax …. for political reasons. for you guys, stop worshiping an idol, specifically a nasty vulgar one. [that is not to say trump shouldnt be president, i plan on voting for him next time, but being president doesnt make you a paragon of infallible virtue]
If thats your theory then why are the hospitals all of the sudden overcrowded? Why aren’t there enough beds in the icu? Why did Maimonidies Hospital build a tent outside? The common flu does not overcrowd hospitals!!! Wake up!!!!
CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza
And this will be on top of (adding to) those numbers, which means the health system will be over burdened and will not be able to function properly.
People always die, according to medical records, of cardiocirculatory arrest (not sure if you believe that they die because Hashem wants so). Then there are causes for the cardiocirculatory arrest.
I am sorry you are not moved by all the reports of death of Tzaddikim and fellow Yidden and dismiss them all as if we are, G-d forbid, disposable.
Aside from what others have responded, there is also the little point that the common flu has at least “treatment” with a track record (not a complete cure, but still reduces the problems) while this thing is brand new and all treatments are guess work with no track record.
I read Dr Bennett’s very carefully, and I am baffled. The letter is indeed well written, thorough and erudite . However, I see nothing different in it compared with what has been widely known for days and even weeks. Hard to believe the Rav was not told this numerous times by his advisers. Any theories as to what was in the letter that proved so convincing?
I am also a physician and clearly I agree that large gatherings and shulsshould be closed for the time being. However, A gathering of 10 people outside with proper distancing- say 10 to 15 feet even should be perfectly fine based on the CDC guidelines.
Even with current states that are under complete lockdown they permit walking your dog or going for a jog outside for exercise purposes. Therefore, why are you be more stringent than the CDC in disallowing gatherings outdoors with proper distancing. If we were to invoke your guidelines then everyone should simply stay in their homes without exception and not exit for any purpose whatsoever
I am also a physician and deeply concerned about the spread of the virus. Obviously, large gatherings should not occur. However we shouldn’t be more stringent in the CDC itself. The CDC allows for outdoor activity including walking your dog and exercising outdoors even in lockdown states. As such a quorum of 10 outdoors with ample distancing should not be an issue.
I agree with above two. Or should I say the above one, because it is obviously the same person
