New Jersey’s annual campaign targeting distracted driving – particularly those texting behind the wheel – kicks off Monday with 207 police departments and law enforcement agencies receiving more than $1 million in grants for additional patrols to issue tickets.
The three-week “U Text. U Drive. U Pay.” campaign runs through April 21 and is timed to coincide with National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.Last year’s campaign saw New Jersey police departments issue 13,146 tickets for cell phone use or texting and 5,697 for careless driving. Police also issued 6,538 speeding tickets and 5,712 seat belt citations during the targeted enforcement.

Drivers Beware – texting while driving is an extremely dangerous activity, which puts your own, plus other people’s lives at risk!!!
Incidentally, you may get pulled over and have to pay a well deserved hefty fine.

I live on Long Island. And honestly, driving has become so dangerous over the last 5 years or so. Almost EVERY driver I see, is either holding, talking, texting or dialing their phones. How often do you wait behind a car, at a green light, when the driver before you is looking down & texting? Or a car starts drifting out of their lane, on a highway, while they are fiddling with their phone ?
Come on people, driving has become a combat zone !!!
