The Sun reports: Earth has recorded its shortest day since records began – but did you even notice? A faster spin meant that Earth’s usual 24-hour rotation was 1.59 milliseconds shorter.
The fast-paced spin occurred on June 29, creating a headache for time-watchers.
That’s because Earth’s rotation is usually slowing down.
In fact, we’ve had to add 27 “leap seconds” in the last 50 years to keep global clocks in check.
Clocks paused most recently in 2016 to account for this strange astronomical effect.
Now Earth’s spin appears to be speeding up and scientists aren’t exactly sure why.
Usually days get longer – albeit only very slightly.
That’s because Earth is constantly being tugged on by the Sun and Moon.
But June 29 marks the shortest day so far, in a five-year trend of shrinking days.

Put up a speed camera and the Earth will stop speeding.
Oy! I hope I didn’t miss Zman Krias Shma!
SO THAT’S WHY I FELT DIZZY!
Here’s why: the pre-Moshiach Era is compared to Erev Shabbos. That’s when things start to move faster. The closer you get, the faster things spin… ‘במהרה בימינו’- faster days…
nice
“The Sun reports: Earth has recorded its shortest day since records began… Usually days get longer… That’s because Earth is constantly being tugged on by the Sun and Moon…. Now Earth’s spin appears to be speeding up and scientists aren’t exactly sure why.”
However, the Earth issued a statement on Monday saying, “This whole report is just a typical spin by the fake media, which clearly has its own agenda.”
“Is it just a coincidence,” the Earth asked, “that The Sun, of all media outlets, is complaining about me shortening sunlight and daylight time? I don’t think so.”
“So now the spin doctors at The Sun are accusing me of altering my spin rotations to deprive the Sun of its daily exposure time?!! the Earth said in the statement.
“Here’s the deal,” the Earth went on to say, “as the article in The Sun duly noted, I am ‘constantly being tugged on by the Sun and Moon’, and I’m sick and tired of being tugged on by these selfish grandstanders. So, I spun away from them for a millisecond or two, just to get a little breath of fresh air. THAT’s all! And, unfortunately, in the process of doing that, I caused a tiny, tiny shortening of the day, and a miniscule reduction of the Sun’s time in the limelight. Big deal!”
This certainly calls for a heiche kedusha.
Lol
Its written that Moshiach will come b’ito oh b’achishena…..Hkb”h wants to take us out already but he sees were not zoche yet. But yet B’eito is also not exactly now so he is moving the whole time and everything quicker so we can get to the B’ito quicker. Unreal!
If you climb up on ladders, building roofs, mountains, etc. you will be doing your part to slow the earth’s rotation. The closer you are to the equator, the greater the effect will be. No ladders / mountains handy? Lift up your arms – that’ll also make a difference. Of course the difference will be infinitesimally immeasurable, and as soon as you go back down it’ll speed up again, but hey, who says you can’t make a difference?
P.S.
Raising your arms while in the shower on Friday afternoon won’t give you more time to wash up on Erev Shabbos.
Will Sunday’s fast be over earlier than as scheduled?
Yes, definitely. Just keep the ac on. No shtiks.
Metazoid. Its the vacationers.
