East Ramapo school officials plan to add mid-day busing on Fridays during the winter to get children home before Shabbos, observed by most of the district’s 25,000 private school students.
On Wednesday evening, the school board approved a change in its $4.4 million four-year contract with Student Bus, Inc. to include one hour of busing on Friday afternoons for students who normally walk.
The vote to approve extra funding for transportation — an already controversial topic in East Ramapo — comes months after officials were forced to make $4.3 million in cuts due to the public’s rejection of the district’s 2018-19 budget proposal.
