An Egyptian official has already confirmed to Reuters that “This was done as a step that was needed ahead of Sisi’s announcement that he will run for president.”
In order to run, Sisi needed to relinquish his position as defense minister. It apparently took only 15 minutes for the cabinet to conclude the government should resign. Read more at Reuters.
