Egypt has insisted that Hamas and other terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip cease incendiary balloon attacks on Israel, fearing the situation may spiral out of control.
“Senior Egyptian intelligence officials contacted leaders of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and warned them that the continued attacks on Israel could lead to an all-out military confrontation in the Gaza Strip, the sources said,” according to a report in the Jerusalem Post.
There is some speculation that the leaders of the two main groups – Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) – may be invited for urgent discussions in Cairo, as Egyptian officials attempt to avert a possible war on their border.
