An aid to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that Egypt will host indirect talks between Israelis and Palestinians this week. Azzam al-Ahmed said on a Palestinian radio show today that talks would begin in Cairo on Tuesday.
Not only will the negotiations aim to bring a long-term Gaza ceasefire, they will try to rectify Palestinians’ internal riff between Hamas and Fatah.
Palestinians attacked Israel in a bloody 50-day long war this summer that came to a close in August, but without a long-term peace deal.
