El Al recently announced that it will carry iPads fully loaded with ArtScroll’s library between NYC and Tel Aviv. The iPads will features the entire Schottenstein Edition of Talmud – the English and Hebrew versions, the Schottenstein Elucidated Mishnah, the Ryzman Mishna, the Safra Chumashim in English, Hebrew and French, as well as dozens of other seforim and books. It will function without the need for an internet connection.

The new development was first reported by Dan’s Deals.

El Al currently has Daf Yomi available on their in-flight entertainment screens, but the iPads will have a much more robust content catalog.

The iPads will be free through 5/31, and will then be available for rent for $12.99 per flight.

El Al says that they will initially carry about a dozen iPads per flight, and will adjust that number based on demand. You can request an iPad onboard from a flight attendant for free during the intro period, but the goal will be to allow customers to reserve iPads in advance via the duty free offering page.

  1. Worse decision. You’ve now taken away the kvetch of all the protestors against in-flight movies. Now, this forces them to put their money where their mouth is. Since many of those were never actually up to that task, they’re going to get rankly like a stirred bee’s nest and kvetch about who knows what. Better to just have them kept busy with continued rants against movie watchers.
