El Al Serving Sandwiches Instead of Meals

In an experimental program, El Al is offering some Europe-bound passengers a sandwich and salad instead of a full meal to reduce food and staff costs, Haaretz reported.

The airline offered the lighter fare on 30 flights over the weekend, joining a global trend of offering light meals on shorter routes.

In March, El Al reported higher fourth-quarter losses and blamed it on increased salaries, rising jet fuel costs and intensifying competition.

  1. Elal needs to step up its service and fleet.

Sandwiches? That’s not new. I got sandwiches on a European flight from Canada on how crazy that was.

Maybe, just maybe it’s because of their moronic attitude toward passengers (you know – the ones that pay). They tried this sandwich trick a few years ago on the midnight flights to/from JFK/BGU and lost big time. So now they’re trying it out again on short haul flights. Try giving SERVICE WITH A SMILE and THE COSTUMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. What’s next, bring your own folding chairs?

  3. El Al new 787 planes have Daf Yomi in English and Hebrew in their screens. I just returned with one wed nite. It also has parisha and musser plus carlbach music.

  4. Are the sandwiches whole wheat? We wouldn’t want to get Michelle Obama upset. Will we get a choice of paas akum, paas yashan, or is it only the super frum stale kind?
