elalEl Al Airlines’ pilots union today told its members that negotiations with management over labor conditions, sponsored by the Histadrut (Federation of Labor), have broken down. At the talks, which have gone on for a month, the two sides have discussed the pilots’ excessive workload and what the pilots say is a marked deterioration in labor conditions.

“Management has systematically ignored proposals for streamlining and warnings about the stresses faced by the airline’s pilots and employees,” Pilots Union chairman Captain Nir Tzuk told Globes.

Tzuk says that El Al’s lack of respect for the employees was making it difficult for them to work harder and sacrifice for the company. Tzuk added that the requests of the El Al employees can be applied without any extra costs to the company.

Tzuk also claimed that even issues that would supposedly save the airline millions of dollars and which have been under discussion for a long time were rejected by the El Al CEO.

Right now, there is legitimate concern that flights this summer could be disrupted.
