Continuing his support for the recently indicted Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his demand for Attorney General Merrick Garland to provide a public explanation regarding the charges brought forth by his office and Special Counsel Jack Smith. These charges pertained to the alleged hoarding of classified documents and obstruction of justice.

Addressing the North Carolina Republican Party Convention as part of his nationwide tour to officially announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race, Pence reiterated his criticism of Trump’s request for his assistance in overturning the 2020 election. This showcased the complex dynamics between the two men as they both vie for the presidency.

Pence emphasized that on January 6, 2021, when Trump urged him to reject the electoral votes that had elected President Joe Biden, he was faced with a choice between Trump and the Constitution. Pence stated that he made the decision to prioritize the Constitution over Trump’s demands.

In a pointed remark aimed at Trump, Pence asserted to the North Carolina Republicans, “Anyone who prioritizes their personal interests over the Constitution should never hold the office of the President of the United States.”

The reaction from the pro-Trump crowd was lukewarm, indicating the conflicting sentiments within the audience.

Pence’s call for answers from Attorney General Garland came on the heels of Special Counsel Smith’s unveiling of the unprecedented federal indictment against the former president.

The charges against Trump include allegations of mishandling sensitive classified documents seized at Mar-a-Lago and unlawfully impeding the government’s efforts to retrieve them.

Apart from addressing Trump’s indictment, Pence delivered his customary campaign speech to the North Carolina Republicans, pledging to pursue economic and foreign policies in line with those championed by Trump if elected.

Seeking to connect with local concerns, Pence acknowledged that North Carolina would play a significant role in next year’s “Super Tuesday” primaries.

Following in the footsteps of GOP rival Ron DeSantis, Pence vowed to restore the name of North Carolina’s Fort Liberty to its previous designation of Fort Bragg. The change in name had been part of a nationwide initiative aimed at removing names associated with Confederate Civil War generals, including Braxton Bragg, from military facilities.

  1. Happenstance is not an as if.

Donald would be free of what has sent others to jail and fines.

Garland is trite vague but there is a dry case. I hope Mr. Trump keeps his bible.

  2. Merrick Garland is a rotten. He is corrupt thru and thru. He is even worse than the race baiter himself, Eric Holder. Thank God the disgraced Garland never made it to the supreme court. A true lowlife.
