UPDATE: The Israeli military says that a Syrian anti-aircraft missile was fired at IAF jets operating near the Israel-Syria border. The missiles missed their targets and continued into Israel, causing rocket sirens near Dimona to sound. Israeli jets attacked the launch site where the missile originated. No further escalation is expected at this time.

Rocket sirens went off in Southern Israel and the Patriot missile defense system was reportedly activated near the site of Israel’s nuclear facility in Dimona.

According to initial reports, a large explosion was heard by nearby residents, who said their homes shook from the force of the blast. Initial reports claimed that a missile was intercepted by a Patriot system near the nuclear facility.

The missile is now not believed to have been fired by Iranian proxies in the region in response to the sabotaging of its nuclear facility in Natanz.

Video below shows a projectile entering Israel from Syria shortly before the Red Alert sirens began sounding in Southern Israel.
