Far Rockaway Erev Pesach Sanitation Pickup and Burning of Chometz

biur-chometzThe Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula has arranged for special Erev Pesach collection by the Department of Sanitation of the City of New York on Wednesday, April 8 in the Far Rockaway area, starting at 6:00 a.m.Kevin Coll, superintendent of DSNY for the Rockaway Peninsula, said that every effort would be made to complete this task by 11:00 a.m. In order to complete the task, extra collection trucks will be provided. To accommodate the anticipated heavy refuse, Superintendent Coll requests that residents put out any items that can be discarded in the weeks prior to April 8, and that the remaining refuse be placed curbside by midnight on Tuesday. Pickup will include recycling and bulk. To speed up collection, you are requested to use plastic bags where possible. In addition, stationary collection trucks will be located at Hicksville Road, Oak Drive, and Elvira Avenue after 8:00 a.m.

Arrangements have also been made for Belle Harbor/Neponsit area. A stationary collection truck will be located at Congregation Ohab Zedek, Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 134 Street, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, for safety, the JCCRP has arranged for the community to burn chometz from 7:00 a.m. to 11:52 a.m. under the supervision of the FDNY in O’Donohue Park in the parking lot at Seagirt Boulevard and Beach 11th Street. The FDNY requests that people not place plastic bags or aluminum foil into the fire.
