A resident of Far Rockaway, Jeffrey Morel, has been indicted by a grand jury in Queens for charges related to attempted murder. The incident unfolded on a peaceful neighborhood street and had alarming consequences, as bullets fired during the shooting incident on May 1 landed in a nearby yeshiva, narrowly avoiding harm to a student and causing damage to two parked cars.

Jeffrey Morel, aged 31 and residing on Brookhaven Avenue, appeared before Queens Supreme Court Justice Toni Cimino on May 30 for arraignment. He faced a series of grave charges, including attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.

The charges filed against Morel shed light on the sequence of events captured by video surveillance footage. Between approximately 6:54 a.m. and 7:05 a.m. on May 1, an unidentified individual entered an apartment building situated at 9-10 Dinsmore Avenue. This person approached Morel within the building premises and seemingly brandished what appeared to be a firearm in his direction. In response, Morel was observed leaving the building and swiftly making his way towards the intersection of Dinsmore Avenue and Beach 9th Street, an area adjacent to the Talmud Torah Siach Yitzchok school.

The video footage further reveals that another individual exited the same apartment building and proceeded to join Morel at the intersection. Morel, holding a gun, aimed at this second person and fired multiple shots. In a shocking turn of events, the targeted individual can be seen retaliating by pointing what seemed to be a firearm back at Morel. The aftermath of this exchange manifested in two bullet holes discovered in a window at the school, a bullet hole in the front panel of a nearby parked Toyota, and bullet holes in the windshield and driver’s side door of a Honda.

Prompt police response from the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway yielded the discovery of bullet fragments and one fired bullet within the premises of the school. Additionally, a bullet fragment was found on the ground in front of a window at the school. The gravity of the situation becomes even more apparent when considering that a 13-year-old student was present in a classroom when a bullet penetrated the building, narrowly avoiding injury.

Further evidence collected at the scene includes five .40 caliber shell casings retrieved from the ground where Morel was captured on video holding the gun. Additionally, a .45 caliber shell casing and a bullet fragment were discovered on the ground where the second individual stood. Another fired bullet was found at the intersection, adding to the wealth of evidence being presented.

In response to this shocking incident, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz expressed her firm stance, stating, “Queens is not the Wild West. Shootouts on our streets will not be tolerated. Fortunately, no one was injured, and it is imperative that this defendant be held accountable for his actions.”

Justice Cimino presided over the arraignment and ordered Morel to return to court on June 27. If convicted of the attempted murder charge, Morel faces a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years.

Yeh right. Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla. All fake hot air. All talk no do. And what does this white female democrat plan on doing, when she says “it will not be tolerated”? Let’s get real. The suspects are all black. In NYC blacks are untouchable so absolutely NOTHING will happen to these fiends. Our first white female democrat Governor, Kathy Hochul, is proud of her bail reform……….when it applies to blacks. Hochul is the root cause of crime in New York.

  2. The perp will likely be in and out of the system countless times between now and June 27th. It’s hoped that nobody is denying him his liberties lest he and his friends loot and set NY on fire.
