Because Jan. 1, 2017 fell on a Sunday, the “official” holiday is being celebrated today, Monday, Jan. 2. That means government offices, banks and more are closed today.
Here’s what’s open and what’s closed:
Federal, state and local offices – Closed
Courts – Closed
Banks – Almost all closed, check with local branch
U.S. Postal Service – Closed, no mail service
Grocery stores – Most open normal hours
Liquor stores – All ABC stores will be closed; other stores will be open, hours vary
Malls – Open, some may close early
UPS – UPS Express Critical shipments only
Fed Ex – Closed
Movie theaters – Open
Financial markets – Closed
New Year’s Day will fall on a Monday in 2018, so the extended holiday won’t be an issue.
The next federal holiday this year is Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16.
Thank you Matzav for posting this all important information at 10:17. You would think, us dummies, would need this all important information a little earlier, no? But then again, what do you expect from a bunch of rich kids who never worked a day in their spoiled lives. Nu nu.
@Farbitit working stiff what was the point of that message? I for one was about to go to the bank and I appreciate the information from them. If you have nothing nice to say then say NOTHING!!
