JAILThe Justice Department announced it will release 6,000 inmates from prison between October 30 and November 2, in order to reduce overcrowding and relieve drug offenders who received overly punitive sentences in past years.

This decision follows an action by the U.S. Sentencing Commission to reduce potential punishments for drug-related offenses.

The new policy changes could result in some 46,000 out of 100,000 imprisoned drug offenders being elligible for early release. Read more at The Washington Post.
