An Israeli demographics expert disagrees with a Pew Research Center survey published in May, which estimated a 12% increase of 800,000 people in the US Jewish population since 2013 to 7.5 million in 2020.

According to Sergio Della Pergola, a leading authority on Jewish demography, two-thirds of the increase came from Americans who identify as “partly Jewish” and would normally be excluded from population estimates.

He figures that the Jewish population was only six million in 2020, an increase of only 5.2% since 2013.

  1. APART FROM RELIGIOUS JEWS, YOU CAN’T KNOW IF SOMEONE IS JEWISH. A SECULAR AMERICAN WITH A JEWISH NAME IS PROBABLY NOT JEWISH: THE FATHER IS JEWISH AND THE MOTHER IS NOT, GIVEN THE 90% INTERMARRIAGE RATE.
