ezrachiAcharon acharon chaviv. Day four of Agudas Yisroel’s Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah got off to a solid start with a packed beis medrash full of lomdim who were clearly at home, both with the sugyos and the seviva. The avira d’machkim of Eretz Yisroel, the impromptu beis medrash and the four hundred and fifty page sefer containing all possible marei mekomos, meticulously indexed, have really made this experience a delight.

The first shiur of the day was delivered by Harav Avrohom Diernfeld, Rosh Kollel Belz, Tel Aviv. He gave an incredibly clear halachic analysis of the sugyos d’kallah. He explained the differences between the various types of brachos and brought great insight to this important topic.

A special English track, inaugurated this year, was addressed by HaRav Elya Meir Klugman, Rav of Beis Medrash Torah Tefilla and Rosh Yeshivas Nvei Tzion. Rabbi Klugman delivered a shiur on the topic brachos and segulas, a modern day phenomenon. He held the participants spellbound with fascinating anecdotes of gedolim, past and present. The final iyun shiur given in this year’s highly successful English track was delivered by HaRav Meir Zvi Spitzer, R”M, Yeshivas Mir. He clearly delineated the halachos of ikar and tafel and the philosophical underpinnings of why one makes a bracha before eating food.

Next came a seder hachana in which the lomdim prepared for the first iyun shiur of the day, to be delivered by the renowned maggid shiur, HaRav Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi, Rosh Yeshivas Ateres Yisroel. The anticipation was palpable as the Rosh Yeshiva made his way through the Yarchei Kallah beis medrash and took his place behind the shtender to begin his shiur.

With his trademark air of authority, Harav Ezrachi, delivered a fiery shiur that wask’nisinasso m’Sinai. He led the lomdim methodically through the gemora, rishonim v’acharonim concerning the sugya of chiyuv brachos and kedimah bebrachos.

Although the allotted time for the shiur had long passed, the oilam was clearly not finished; dozens of participants engaged Harav Ezrachi with more she’eilos andhe’aros on the sugya until the Rav had to leave for shiur in his own yeshiva.

For the last seder of this year’s 14th Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah, everyone put theirkochos into their final preparations. The shiur was delivered by the renowned mechaber of the popular sefer, Vzos Habracha, Harav Alexander Aryeh Mandelbaum.

The lomdim were also treated to an unexpected tanug ruchni with an especially lively shiur focusing on the halacha lemaseh aspects of pas haba bekisnindelivered by Rav Nissan Kaplan, a noted magid shiur in Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.

The neila address, containing profound and inspiring divrei machshava, was given by HaRav Yakov Hillel, Rosh HaYeshiva of Mechon Ahavat Shalom.

The women’s program included a very lively and animated shiur given by Rabbi Mordechai Neugroschel followed by a fascinating tour of the Old Yaffo Port, the Ilana Gur House and finally a visit to the kevarim of the Stefanesht and Ruzhiner Rebbeszt”l in Givatayim.

With mixed emotions of joy and sorrow; joy for the precious, unique kinyan HaTorah, made in the company of true mevakshim (you don’t fly 6,000 miles to learn if you’re not a mevakeish) in the heady presence of Gedolei Roshei Yeshivos and Gedolei Poskim; and sadness for the ending of this lofty experience, the 14th Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah drew to a close. Over a farewell seudah sponsored by Agudas Yisroel of America, the lomdim took leave of each other, bringing new meaning to Chazal’s statement, “leolam al yipared adam m’chaveiro elo  mitoch dvar halacha.” “A person should not take leave of his friend without sharing with him a Torah insight.”

It can truly be said that l’shana haba b’Yerushalayim habenuyah was deep in the hearts and minds of all the participants.
