Lakewood, NJ – A dormitory housing talmidim of Yeshiva Naos Yaakov was destroyed in a blaze this morning.
The dormitory is located in a house on East End Avenue, off of East Ninth Street, in Lakewood.
The fire started at about 6 a.m. and was extinguished a short while later, but the damage was done, rendering the structure uninhabitable.
All the bochurim sleeping in the house at the time emerged unscathed, boruch Hashem, and were able to remove their tefillin in time.
The bochurim’s yeshiva, Naos Yaakov, is located a few minutes away on Somerset Avenue, off of County Line Road. The rosh yeshiva is Rav Shlomo Feivel Schustal (pictured above).
Local residents of the East End neighborhood graciously offered the bochurim warm drinks, as well as clothes and whatever else they would need in the interim.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but one of the bochurim of the yeshiva told Matzav.com that it appears to have been caused by a plug-in heater used by one of the home’s occupants.
