A second iconic brand plans to change its brand image in the wake of renewed calls for racial equality.

Hours after Quaker Oats said it would retire Aunt Jemina from packaging on its brand of syrup and pancake mixes because it’s “based on a racial stereotype,” the owner of Uncle Ben’s rice announced it planned to make changes.

“As a global brand, we know we have a responsibility to take a stand in helping to put an end to racial bias and injustices,” the Mars-owned brand said in a statement. “As we listen to the voices of consumers, especially in the Black community, and to the voices of our Associates worldwide, we recognize that now is the right time to evolve the Uncle Ben’s brand, including its visual brand identity, which we will do.”

  1. I don’t understand. Isn’t it more racially injustified to remove a picture of blacks?
Having smiling faces of colored people on products we grow up with only spreads positive feelings towards them.
What is the problem that everyone is rushing to undo?

    • Gratuitous slave picture of blacks on the plantation. Aunt Jemima was a part of vaudeville and presented a picture of black women as no better than kitchen help, the name Aunt Jemima comes from a song. Uncle Ben was along the same lines. Their origins were not in slavery but in musical theatre. Aunt Jemima wasn’t around before 1937 and Uncle Ben wasn’t around before 1943, both are Quaker Oat Company products. The problem is perception – both characters deliver the perception that blacks are no better than slaves. Political correctness rejects the notion that our history exists and is a foundation for how far we Americans have come. Instead of focusing on that, we focus on the lowest 10 percent of the population and allow the inmates to run the asylum.

      • 7:03pm, your time at Mao’s reeducation camp wasn’t wasted, you are now a certifiable poc – Politically Obergruppenführer Correct.

  2. Supposedly it’s because blacks were referred to as “Aunt” and “Uncle” rather than Mrs and Mr. As a means of discrimination.

  3. Are black Sodas and chocolate cookies going to be taken off the shelf because it’s “not racially correct “. RIDICULOUS !!!!

  4. This whole thing is insane. Thank you socialist liberal Democrats for spreading your stupidity.

Forget it, I’ll just buy the store brand.

  5. This just in from the BLM headquarters:
    1. No black Borsalino hats allowed. That is a racist cultural appropriation. Let the Jews wear white hats.
    2. All black and brown shoe polish manufacturers are to pay a license fee, payable to Al Sharpton and a Nigerian prince.
    3. The racist geographical name of Black Sea is to be changed…. as soon as we can find it on the map. We have a team of affirmative action college graduates working overtime searching the racist map.
