A complete English translation of the Mishneh Torah is being digitally offered for the first time ever by the nonprofit organization Sefaria, which digitizes and shares Jewish texts for free in Hebrew along with translations and commentaries.
“We are so excited for learners to dive into this rich text and share their reflections with each other and the world,” said Sara Wolkenfeld, Sefaria’s chief learning officer. “For the Jewish people, our texts are our collective inheritance. They belong to everyone and we want them to be available to everyone, in the public domain or with creative commons licenses.”
Users can access the Mishneh Torah on Sefaria’s website and through the Sefaria app.
The translation provided by Sefaria was completed between 1986 and 2007 by Rabbi Eliyahu Touger. The text on the Sefaria website comes with Hebrew commentaries; interlinking to other religious texts, to help readers understand the work; and topic tagging so they can research related ideas that interest them.
The Sefaria website also allows users to create shareable source sheets that incorporate religious texts from Sefaria’s catalogue with their own commentary.
Sefaria is used by more than 500,000 people each month. JNS
“A complete English translation of the Mishneh Torah is being digitally offered for the first time ever”. Really? It has already been available for quite some time on Chabad.org. Just google “Rambam online”. Please stop false advertising.
Oddly enough, they’re using Chabad’s translation.
One should use caution using Sefaria as not all translations were completed by Shomrei Torah
Is there a haskama on Sefaria from Rabbonim in our community?
Depends wha tyou mena by “our community” The Rambam was a Sefardi he gives a haskama to his work. I’m not sure if he got a haskama from “your” community
Doubtful he would have approved of a translation that you would approve
Please check Sefaria out. The have stuff other sites do not carry but they run by Jews not all religious.
I use them when in a bind thus I send them a few bucks but I know some of the staff – not what your looking for.
Like what, sticking to this particular issue, so say they might have doctored some of the Rambam’s psakim? Or are you just casting an overall pall of doubt?
Sefaria is a great resouce in harbotzas HaTorah. Why do you knock it down ? What are you doing to spread Torah ? Doesnt seem like much.
